Familiar Findings

While studying in London, I had the task of creating a piece inspired by a selected area of the city. I spent my time exploring the area near the Thames River and naturally, I sketched some interesting sights, and this led me to noticing similarities and connections to special places and things from home, such as my houseplants and my dog Wilson. These drawings indicated a tactile end result for this project, and soon became the idea of making a quilt of these drawings. The overlapping embroidery helped me represent the structural similarities between each of these connections. Quilts symbolize comfort, so therefore, I wanted to create something beautiful that would be a permanent memory of my time in London and the joy that these connections brought me.
