When prompted to create a collection of found things in London, patterns were a natural attraction for me. I’ve always been drawing patterns and appreciating them everywhere I go, and this project was an opportunity to do an intensive search for patterns anywhere I could find them. I collected patterns on every material I could think of from fabric, to stone, to building structures that contained repeating elements and shapes. After collecting these, I desaturated all images to be able to sort the patterns by shape and form. From these groups, I formed tetris-like shapes to be able to create an abstract and organic pattern, of patterns, printed on a large piece of canvas fabric.
